Die Auswahl einer geeigneten Deponie für feste Abfälle ist eine Herausforderung, die angemessen angegangen werden muss. GIS (Geospatial Information System) ist ein computergestütztes Tool zur Lösung von Umweltproblemen. Es kann den Auswahlprozess von Deponiestandorten optimieren. Durch verschiedene Funktionen kann GIS ein besseres Verständnis der Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt vermitteln. Die verschiedenen Formate der GIS-Dateien wurden in ein gemeinsames Format konvertiert. Anschließend wurden alle Schichten in ein Beschränkungsformat klassifiziert. Dann wurde mithilfe des Entscheidungsunterstützungs-Tools idrisi eine Gewichtung der Schichten berechnet. Schließlich wurde eine Überlagerungsanalyse durchgeführt.
