La conception des fondations d’un bâtiment doit faire l’objet d’une attention particulière, car celles-ci sont en contact avec un matériau, à savoir le sol, qui est très complexe, particulaire, polyphasé, hétérogène et dépendant du niveau de contrainte et de déformation. Le comportement réel d’une structure en contact avec le sol implique un processus interactif qui commence lors de la phase de construction et se termine par un état d’équilibre au sein de la structure et du sol influencé par la structure. L’analyse d’une telle fondation combinée sur pieux et radier est très difficile en raison de la complexité de l’interaction entre le sol, les pieux, la dalle de radier et la structure. L’interaction entre le sol, la fondation et la structure influe sur les contraintes (charges et déplacements) imposées à la structure, et l’analyse de l’interaction entre le pieu, la dalle flottante et le sol d’une fondation combinée sur pieux et dalle flottante et la structure supérieure ne peut être effectuée efficacement qu’à l’aide d’une technique avancée d’éléments finis non linéaires en trois dimensions ou d’un code informatique basé sur des techniques de calcul avancées dans lesquelles des modèles appropriés sont intégrés pour simuler le comportement du sol et l’interaction sol-structure.
