Questo studio ha cercato di caratterizzare gli aspetti fisici del bacino del torrente Estrangulado, un’area compresa tra l’autostrada MG-030 e la miniera Águas Claras della Vale S/A, una regione del comune di Nova Lima/MG che ha subito la pressione dell’espansione urbana del vettore meridionale di Belo Horizonte/MG. La ricerca ha proposto una valutazione dell’ambiente fisico a fronte delle trasformazioni urbane avvenute nella regione. Questa valutazione ha verificato le condizioni dell’ambiente fisico per supportare l’uso del suolo proposto stabilito dalla legislazione urbanistica vigente del comune. Successivamente, è stato monitorato il processo di erosione nell’area di studio per diagnosticarne l’evoluzione. La ricerca bibliografica specializzata è stata utilizzata come metodo per creare una panoramica delle caratteristiche fisiche della regione, così come le visite sul campo per dettagliare meglio le informazioni ottenute. A ciò è seguita una ricerca descrittiva, in cui le caratteristiche ottenute dall’ambiente fisico sono state associate alle proposte di occupazione dell’area.
