A causa dell’intensa crescita urbana delle città, le aree verdi e i corpi idrici sono sempre più soggetti al degrado ambientale. In questo senso, è cresciuta la preoccupazione per i modi di controllare e mitigare il degrado ambientale, che richiede una pianificazione preventiva dell’uso del suolo. Un’indagine sull’attuale uso del suolo, necessaria ai fini della pianificazione, può essere ottenuta utilizzando i dati multispettrali forniti dai satelliti per il telerilevamento. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di effettuare un’analisi spazio-temporale della laguna di Olho D’água, la principale laguna naturale costiera dello Stato di Pernambuco, sulla base di prodotti ottenuti tramite telerilevamento. Per la valutazione sono state utilizzate due variabili biofisiche: NDVI, per valutare il contenuto di clorofilla della vegetazione, e SAVI, per identificare le aree di degrado della zona. Lo studio ha mostrato che la vegetazione ad alto contenuto di clorofilla è diminuita notevolmente a causa della densificazione urbana degli ultimi decenni. I risultati dell’NDVI sono stati confermati dai risultati del SAVI, che hanno indicato un aumento del degrado nell’area.
