A Desordem do Espectro do Autismo causa dificuldades na interacção e comunicação, daí que este estudo seja uma tentativa de lançar alguma luz sobre o discurso das crianças autistas relativamente à forma como elas empregam laços coesivos e mostram cooperação durante a conversa. Este é um passo preliminar para propor algumas sugestões que podem ajudar estas crianças com os seus problemas e condições desafiadoras. O método de investigação baseia-se numa análise do discurso autista em relação a dois pontos: a observância do Princípio Cooperativo pelas crianças na conversação e o uso de laços coesivos. A noção de Grice de O Princípio Cooperativo (1975) que rege os comportamentos de conversação assume que a conversação é um esforço cooperativo entre os interautores. Halliday e Hasan (1976) discutem a noção de coesão no discurso e consideram que qualquer texto deve ser unificado por certos dispositivos coesivos. Este estudo aborda o discurso das crianças autistas a partir das duas perspectivas: cooperação e coesão.
