My mother married Albert Arthur Wisdom in 1916, whose brother Frederick was Norman Wisdoms father. Both Norman and I had similar miserable childhoods. Both being discarded by our fathers, he at the age of 14 year and I at the age of 8, who decided they could not afford to keep us and we must go out into the world to fend for ourselves. I recall Norman turned to busking and luggage carrying, around Victoria mainline station to eek a living. The turning point in Normans life was when he took the advise of an ex army sergeant to join up as a boy soldier. When posted to the North West frontier he became a member of the regimental band, where he learned his skill’s as a musician. Later going on to become one of England’s most popular entertainers on screen, theatre and television and receiving a knighthood. As my story unfolds it tells of my life, and the time from the age of 8 years until I was 16 years old that I spent in a boys home. I never saw or heard from my father and mother after they had left me to face the world on my own. It also tells of my formative teenage years. How I dealt with my early civilian and military life, and my business life. I developed a successful domestic electrical and refrigeration business, and achieved success playing Lawn Green Bowls in both England, achieving National honours, and later in Australia, in my twilight years. Throughout my life, both fate and luck have played a big part, after the poor start, and my determination to make a success of life.
