Le problème du vieillissement est un domaine de recherche qui suscite aujourd’hui un intérêt particulier, non seulement en raison de son importance, mais aussi parce qu’il reste encore à connaître et à comprendre ce processus. Indépendamment des idées reçues sur les personnes âgées et le processus de vieillissement, l’expérience et l’expression de la sexualité pour ce groupe d’âge sont souvent reléguées au second plan, peut-être parce que beaucoup considèrent qu’à ce stade du cycle de vie, l’individu a déjà réduit son intérêt pour la sexualité. En outre, des études récentes montrent que les personnes âgées constituent le groupe le plus exposé au risque de SIDA (syndrome d’immunodéficience acquise). Les études sur ce sujet sont encore rares, en particulier celles qui établissent un lien entre la sexualité et la confiance chez les personnes âgées et la prévention des maladies sexuellement transmissibles. Nous utiliserons la théorie triangulaire de l’amour de Stenberg, car elle permet de valider plus fidèlement l’incidence de l’amour dans la relation affectivo-sexuelle chez les personnes âgées. Ainsi, l’objectif de cette étude sera de rechercher les raisons pour lesquelles les personnes âgées ne se protègent pas sexuellement.
