Godfried Danneels, né le 4 juin 1933, est licencié en philosophie de l’Université catholique de Louvain et docteur en théologie de l’université grégorienne de Rome. Il est ordonné prêtre le 17 août 1957 pour le diocèse de Bruges. Évêque Nommé évêque d’Anvers le 4 novembre 1977, il est consacré le 18 décembre suivant. Deux ans plus tard, le 19 décembre 1979, il devient archevêque de Malines-Bruxelles et primat deBelgique. Le 18 janvier 2010, ayant dépassé la limite d’âge, sa démission est acceptée par Benoît XVI Cardinal Il est créé cardinal lors du consistoire du 2 février 1983 avec le titre de cardinal-prêtre de Sainte-Anastasie (S Anastasia). Il participe au conclave de 2005 et à celui de 2013 qui élisent respectivement les papes Benoît XVI et François. Godfried Danneels, was born 4 June 1933, holds a licenciéate degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain and a Doctor of Theology from the Gregorian University of Rome.
