The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. The literature that can help to provide permanent comfort and peace to the life of a common man breathing in a fragmented society and an oppressive system is undoubtedly ’Literature for Life’. One of the important Urdu fiction writers of the late twentieth century is Jameela Hashmi, who understood the importance of traditional storytelling, character and dialogue, plot and themes and also treated them with great rarity and innovation. Nature has endowed Jameela Hashmi with the heart of a woman and the temperament of a man. Therefore, tenderness and brutality are seen growing side by side in her. She weaves the fabric of the story very firmly and not only evokes the event but also takes full advantage of the depiction of this environment to create depth and depth in the effect. The depiction of villages is a specific dimension of Jameela Hashmi’s art. She has presented villages in general with reference to the past and the story progresses and develops with reference to these memories and at the climax, creates a sudden bend and returns towards the end, which is preserved like a precious treasure in her womb. This book contains some selected short stories by Jameela Hashmi./اخیر بیسویں صدی کے اردو کے اہم فکشن نگاروں میں شامل ایک نام جمیلہ ہاشمی کا بھی ہے جنہوں نے روایتی کہانی پن ، کردار و مکالمہ نگاری ، پلاٹ اور موضوعات کی اہمیت کو سمجھا اور بڑی ندرت اور جدّت کے ساتھ برتا بھی۔ جمیلہ ہاشمی کو فطرت نے عورت کا دل اور مرد کا مزاج عطا کیا ہے۔چنانچہ ان کے یہاں لطافت اور سفاکی بیک آن پرورش پاتی ہوئی نظرآتی ہے۔ وہ افسانے کا تارو پود بڑی مضبوطی سے بُنتی ہیں اور نہ صرف صورتِ واقعہ کو ابھارتی ہیں بلکہ تاثیر میں گہرائی اور گیرائی پیدا کرنے کے لیے اسی ماحول کی تصویر کشی سے بھی پورافائدہ اٹھاتی ہیں۔ دیہات کی منظر کشی جمیلہ ہاشمی کے فن کی ایک مخصوص جہت ہے۔ انہوں نے دیہات کو بالعموم ماضی کے حوالے سے پیش کیا ہے اور افسانہ ان یادوں کے حوالے سے آگے بڑھتا پروان چڑھتا اور نقطۂ عروج پر اچانک خم پیدا کر کے اختتام کی طرف مراجعت کر جاتا ہے جو ان کے بطن میں قیمتی خزینے کی طرح محفوظ ہے۔ یہ کتاب جمیلہ ہاشمی کے کچھ منتخب افسانوں پر مشتمل ہے۔
