Das Tor zum einheitlichen Gesundheitssystem ist die Primärversorgung, deren wichtigste Modalität die Familiengesundheitsstrategie (ESF) ist. Zu einer ESF gehören Fachleute aus den Bereichen Krankenpflege, Medizin und Zahnmedizin, und die Studenten dieser Studiengänge müssen die örtlichen Gegebenheiten kennen und ihnen nahe sein, um später dort arbeiten zu können. Da im Westen Santa Catarinas etwa ein Drittel der Bevölkerung in ländlichen Gebieten lebt, hofft man, dass die Absolventen einer solchen Einrichtung darauf vorbereitet sind, dieser Bevölkerung zu helfen. Ziel dieser Studie war es, mehr über die akademische Ausbildung in den Studiengängen Krankenpflege, Medizin und Zahnmedizin an einer Gemeinschaftsuniversität im Westen Santa Catarinas, Brasilien, im Hinblick auf die Gesundheitsversorgung der ländlichen Bevölkerung im Rahmen der primären Gesundheitsversorgung zu erfahren.
