Ahiara declaration was the second Biafran anniversary broadcast and also a statement of the principles guiding the Biafran revolution and the reason for the secession from Nigeria. The broadcast was made by Emeka Ojukwu the then leader of Biafra.on the 1st of June 1969.One will ask why republish the Ahiara declaration again after all these years? The Igbos have an adage that a man who can’t recall where rain started falling on him will never know when it will stop. Meaning that every human being should always examine his life on minute by minute basis The Nigerian civil war led to the death of an estimated 5 million people but the root causes of the war are yet to be tackled, this has led to notable increase in these problems bedeviling our nation.Arab / Islamic expansionism through forced religious conversion, neo colonialism, lack of meritocracy. Genocide, oppression and suppression of dissident voices, extrajudicial killings, poor management of resources and joblessness are some of the causes of the secession attempt that finally led to war.Has Nigeria as a country been able to face these monsters and tackle them head on? The answer is NO!There is no cure for injustice anywhere in the world except justice and until Nigeria is fair, just and firm in tackling these issues, the issue of secession will persist until the country disintegrates.Suppression will only lead to dissidents going underground and this will spell doom for the country. So why republish this? The answer is to force the country to make the painful move and tackle these unjust situations to stop the impending bloodletting that might follow. This is also to tell the story of how the Biafrans felt and give a glimpse on why they fought tenaciously for a separate state.Today, many more regions are now clamouring for a separate state due to the feeling of marginalization, oppressive policies outright corruption etc,IF WE FAIL TO FACE THESE ISSUES SQUARELY NIGERIA AS WE KNOW IT MAY NEVER SURVIVE
