'《中国艺术研究院学术文库：京剧说汇》为作者有关京剧研究和评论文章的选集。收入1988年以来长短文50多篇，论及京剧的形成历史和艺术优势，京剧在上海的分化及其意义，京剧流派的兴衰，若干京剧名家（包括演员和导演）及新秀的评介，京剧新剧目的评论，京剧舞台美术的古典精神和现代探索，梅兰芳出访美国和苏联的学术反响等。作者从京剧爱好者出发，在近30年间，成为现代京剧的关注者、京剧命运的思考者、京剧知识的普及工作者。从书中可以感受到作者对京剧的理想，既要保护、传承古典美，又要探索、创作现代美；京剧既是古代戏曲的终结，又是现代戏曲的开端；在中国戏曲的未来进程中，京剧的健康发展，具有'扶老携幼'的特殊作用。回顾我与京剧的缘分，大体就如上述。从京剧的爱好者出发，成了现代京剧的关注者、京剧命运的思考者、京剧知识的普及者。收入本书的文章，多是由此而来，而且多是退休之后写的。但我毕竟不是京剧'科班'出身，对京剧所知非常有限，与京剧界也始终是个'圈外人'，是个旁观者。我文章中有些观点与同样爱好京剧、研究京剧的朋友有这样那样的分歧，读这些旧稿时，会想起我从报纸上剪下来贴在日记本上的周建国先生篆刻的两方印章:'反观自己难全是''思量他人未尽非'。作者简介　　龚和德，中国艺术研究院研究员。1931年生，江苏启东人。1954年毕业于中央戏剧学院华东分院（今上海戏剧学院）舞台美术系，就职于中国戏曲研究院、中国艺术研究院戏曲研究所，从事戏曲史论研究。参与《中国戏曲通史》《中国戏曲通论》《中国大百科全书·戏曲学》《中国京剧百科全书》等重点项目的编撰。曾任中国舞台美术学会副会长、顾问，中国戏曲学会秘书长、副会长，《中华戏曲》主编，中国戏曲学院荣誉教授。出版的著作有《舞台美术研究》《乱弹集》《关注戏曲的现代建设》等。
