This newly revised book draws from recently released documents from the Lithuanian archives and insights from newly discovered extended family members. These new sources build upon my earlier research, which included century-old documents from St. Petersburg, Russia, DNA testing, various genealogy websites, and travel to Lithuania. Together, they helped me uncover the rich history of my noble Lutkiewicz and Dowgwillo ancestors. Born in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania-once the largest country in Europe-they lived through a tumultuous history, enduring Czarist Russian rule, Napoleon’s invasion, uprisings, and later Soviet and Nazi occupations. At the turn of the 20th century, many of my ancestors, including my great-grandparents, immigrated to the United States. After World War II, another wave of relatives arrived, driven by very different circumstances. This is a collection of their stories.
