The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Jagdish Bimal stands out among the renown Urdu short story writers. Despite being a product of the revolutionary era, his short stories do not seem to be strongly influenced by the revolutionary turmoil, rather the plots of his short stories and his style of narration seem very calm.
