La dentisterie adhésive a évolué rapidement. Deux facteurs principaux ont motivé cette révolution. Premièrement, les attentes et les besoins des patients. Ceux-ci souhaitent non seulement des restaurations fonctionnelles et anatomiquement saines, mais également esthétiques. Deuxièmement, de notre point de vue, le besoin actuel est celui de soins mini-invasifs ou à intervention minimale . Cela signifie que seuls les tissus dentaires perdus et malades sont remplacés par un matériau de restauration directement collé aux tissus sains restants. Une autre école de pensée préconise l’entretien et la réparation plutôt que le remplacement complet des restaurations (présentant une décoloration marginale et/ou des défauts), ce qui a encore stimulé l’utilisation de la technologie adhésive dans diverses applications de la pratique clinique quotidienne. Buonocore était loin de se douter de l’impact que sa découverte aurait sur la qualité des soins dentaires plus de 50 ans plus tard.
