L’HKS (disturbo ipercinetico) o ADHD (disturbo da deficit di attenzione/iperattività) è il disturbo psichico più diffuso tra i bambini e gli adolescenti. Per questo motivo, i modelli esplicativi più discussi vengono spiegati nell’attuale 'modello biopsicosociale'. Scienziati e psicologi concordano sul fatto che bambini e adolescenti impulsivi, iperattivi e distratti sono sempre esistiti. Oggi questo fenomeno è solo più evidente e marcato, tanto che negli ultimi decenni il confine tra bambini e adolescenti che necessitano di cure e quelli che non ne hanno bisogno è diventato più labile. Esistono numerose teorie sull’HKS/ADHD, secondo le quali la moderna società industriale, con le sue condizioni di vita straordinarie, sarebbe responsabile di questo comportamento anomalo nei bambini e negli adolescenti.
