As nanopartículas de prata e ouro de metais nobres foram preparadas utilizando o Mel de Manuka Ativo 20+ UMFR. O mel de Manuka é bem conhecido pelas suas propriedades benéficas, para além do mel de flora mista, para utilização no tratamento de feridas. Tendo-se verificado que oferece propriedades antimicrobianas, anti-inflamatórias e de desbridamento eficazes como penso, apenas o Mel de Manuka Ativo de qualidade médica deve ser utilizado em feridas abertas. A formação de nanopartículas de prata e ouro foi confirmada utilizando análises UV-Vis, SEM e FTIR e a sua atividade antibacteriana foi avaliada contra Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus e Escherichia coli. As nanopartículas de prata e ouro mostraram uma zona de inibição clara e bem definida em comparação com o controlo. Os resultados sugerem que as moléculas estabilizadas e reduzidas de nanopartículas de prata e ouro podem atuar como um agente antibacteriano eficaz na cicatrização de feridas.
