Para promover as comunicações MU (Multi-Utilizador) em WLANs de elevada eficiência, a nova norma IEEE 802.11ax introduziu o conceito de RU (Resource Unit) através da técnica de transmissão OFDMA. Embora as comunicações OFDMA MU permitam servir vários utilizadores ao mesmo tempo nas direcções DL (Down-Link) e UL (Up-Link), há ainda vários desafios a enfrentar para conceber um protocolo MAC (Medium Access Control) que atribua de forma justa e utilize eficazmente as RUs. Os desafios a enfrentar são os seguintes (1) definir quando e como utilizar os quadros de controle 802.11ax, (2) estabelecer uma política de envio justo das necessidades UL, (3) adotar uma estratégia para selecionar uma estrutura de canal, e (4) evitar perda de eficiência espetral e timeout BA (Block Acknowledgment). Nesta tese, propusemos o protocolo FAEU-RUs (Fair Allocation and Effective Utilization of RUs), respondendo a cada um dos desafios das comunicações OFMDA MU. A avaliação de desempenho demonstra que o protocolo FAEU-RUs melhora significativamente o desempenho global da rede, mas também o desempenho individual de cada tipo de tráfego (DL e UL) e de cada categoria de estação.
