宋代是我国词创作的鼎盛期。现在可考的宋代词人有一千四百余家，共计作品两万余首。由上村民朱孝臧于1924年编定的《宋词三百首》，是具有代表性的选本。共收宋代词人八十八家，词三百首。 本书以上村民的选本为底本，除了介绍词牌外，还对每首词作的内容进行串讲，并以凝练的文字对每首词的写法、艺术特点进行归纳总结，以帮助读者更好地鉴赏作品。注释的其他部分，除了注释字音、字义、名物制度以外，还尽可能将词作中的语典、事典注释出来，以提高读者阅读的审美兴味。
