内容简介箱根驿传，日本热门长跑接力赛，每年元旦后举行，除了关东的二十支大学队之外，赛场上还有一支特别的队伍，那就是由未能进入决赛的大学各派出一名选手组成的关东学生联合队（下称'学联队'），但他们的成绩不计入排名，也不会留下比赛纪录。今年，由新上任的甲斐教练带领学联队，赛前，他设定了争夺前三的目标。结果遭到其他大学队的嘲笑与批评，以及媒体的冷遇。教练、前教练、站上赛场的选手，每个人都有自己的故事。让他们不断奋力奔跑的究竟是什么？他们能否实现赛前设定的看似不可能的目标？而另一边，负责直播这次赛事的大日电视台的制作人德重和他的同事们，又是如何理解体育精神、赛事直播的意义，并克服天气、地形乃至台内人事斗争等重重困难，完成直播箱根驿传的任务的？他们与学联队的相遇，会谱写出怎样动人的故事？
