本书是美国德州李新纪先生自传，分为上下两集全彩问世。作者曾是一个红卫兵和后来的知青，1966年写过大字报，破过四旧，天真地以为那就是革命，是最后的斗争。1968年去上山下乡了。在知青生活的艰苦岁月里，经常抬头望天，听说美国人登上了月球，让他惊叹不已。从那时起，他想的不是怎样登上月球，而是先登陆美国再说，因为美国离天最近。要做个离天最近的人，他等待了25年，也就是说等了1/4 个世纪。而今天的中国也有了自己的登月计划，且可能在10年之内实现。人的一生就是在望月，梦月，登月的过程中。人生又好比是一场马拉松，已经跑了廿迈，现在想的是如何跑好最后的六迈路程。在回顾人生马拉松的时候，沿途经历的困苦都成了风景，唯独终点处的欢呼声令人向往。在这场人生马拉松的奔跑中，鼓舞我的永远是前面的目标，永远是星辰大海和浩瀚宇宙。李新纪，新中国的同龄人 。一个老三届，经历过文革和知青上山下乡运动。北京大学生物系生化专业毕业（1972-1975）出国前在北京市环境监测中心工作。1995年以J-1（非移民工作签证）访问学者身份来美国工作，在美国德州大学西南医学中心在达拉斯做博士后（Postdoc）。J-1签证 3年期满后转成H-1工作签证。2000年获绿卡留在西南医学中心继续工作，一直到退休。
