Recentemente, a questão do abuso sexual infantil (ASI) no Sudão começou a tornar-se pública, na sequência de acidentes recorrentes, ferimentos graves e mortes. O objetivo era identificar padrões de abuso sexual infantil em Cartum, no Sudão, além de fatores pré-abuso, peri-abuso e pós-abuso que colocam as crianças em risco de abuso. Foi realizado um inquérito transversal e prospetivo, incluindo 282 crianças vítimas de abuso sexual, entre 1/3 e 30/6/2012. Verificou-se que o padrão de abuso sexual infantil era (92,6) através do contacto, principalmente relações sexuais (60,2%). Os agressores eram figuras extrafamiliares (88,3%), principalmente vizinhos (44,0%) e pessoas do entorno (17,4%). Apenas 14,2% eram completos estranhos. (11,7%) foram abusadas por uma figura intrafamiliar e (3,6%) por incesto. O abuso sexual repetido foi (18,1%) e significativamente associado a mulheres e crianças mais velhas, sendo significativo quando viviam com padrastos, madrastas e quando o agressor usava persuasão para cometer o abuso. A faixa etária mais visada foi de 5 a 10 anos (45,4%). A maioria dos abusos ocorreu em áreas significativamente conhecidas pela criança e pela família e significativamente relacionadas com os agressores (44,1%) e a família (23,8%).
