IntroductionThe survival of the Amhara people and the unity of Ethiopia are inseparable. The strength of the Amhara is the strength of Ethiopia; their destruction threatens its very existence. Whenever Ethiopia faces crisis, those driven by hate and conspiracy emerge to divide it-believing that destroying the Amhara will dismantle the nation. Having captured state power, these extremist groups now wage a systematic campaign of persecution and genocide.Ensuring the survival of the Amhara is not merely a regional concern but a national imperative for preserving Ethiopia’s identity and continuity. The Amhara can endure this assault only through unity, organization, and transformative change that restores justice and equality. This book presents a collection of analytical and research articles on the Amhara genocide and related political and historical issues. Originally published in English and translated into Amharic, they are intended to deepen understanding and strengthen the struggle for justice and renewal.Historical and Political ContextSince its inception, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has advanced an ideology hostile to the Amhara. The ethnic-based federal system established after 1983 E.C. institutionalized division and resentment. Under Abiy Ahmed’s rule, displacement, massacres, and discrimination have intensified, especially in Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz regions.Instead of addressing these crimes, the government conceals them by equating victims and perpetrators. As Dr. Tesfaye Demelash (2022) noted, the Amhara face a regime that sustains ethnic cleansing while hiding behind moral deception.Historically, Amharas identified primarily with a broader Ethiopian unity rather than ethnicity. Yet the ongoing killings have compelled a collective awakening. For the first time, Amharaness is consciously expressed as a shared national identity-a necessity for survival, not division (Moges 2020).Patterns of ViolenceBecause the Amhara live dispersed across Ethiopia, they have become easy targets for organized ethnic extremists. In Benishangul-Gumuz and Oromia, entire villages have been destroyed, and hundreds of thousands displaced. The brutality-widely documented by eyewitnesses and rights organizations-is horrifying, yet remains largely unacknowledged. The former Amhara Democratic Party, now the Amhara Prosperity Party, has failed to defend its people. Civil, political, and human rights guaranteed by law and international conventions are routinely violated without consequence.Worse still, the narrative has been inverted: perpetrators claim victimhood while the Amhara voice is silenced. Their suffering is dismissed as 'local conflict,' and misinformation spreads through official and media channels. Reports by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the U.S. State Department confirm the atrocities, yet international silence persists, encouraging further violence-even within the Amhara homeland.ConclusionThe campaign against the Amhara represents both a national crisis and a moral test for Ethiopia. It challenges the very idea of shared citizenship and justice. To survive, the Amhara must strengthen their unity, defend their rights, and articulate a collective political vision. This book is not only a record of tragedy but a call to action. By assembling research and testimony, it seeks to expose truth, awaken awareness, and inspire solidarity in the ongoing struggle for survival, dignity, and the restoration of national integrity.
