Thomas Bell arrived in the Carolina Colony in the 1740s to serve as minister of the Gospel. A String of Bells relates the joys and sorrows of his working-class Irish-Catholic Bell descendants and their service to God, country, and family through war and peace, poverty and prosperity. It follows great-grandson Julius Bell and the Beaufort (SC) Artillery during the Civil War as well as the family he would later raise in Savannah, GA. The story of Thomas Bell’s descendants is the story of America, told generation by generation, one life at a time.
