I started writing around the age of 12 shortly after an incident that happened to me one night when I was unable to go to sleep. Then, when I reached my early twenties and my confused little world began to crumble, my Evangelistic babysitter suggested I read the poems that the Lord inspired me to write and see if he had a message for me. After reading and re-reading them, I was amazed to learn that God had an answer for me in every poem. And when I started praying, studying the Bible and began going to church on a regular basis, the messages in the poems began to intensify and change. Because the more I went to church and listened to the sermons and surrounded myself with people who sincerely believed in Christ, the more I was inspired to write. The poems have encouraged me in many ways and have helped me to grow in my faith, as well. So, whenever God gives me an opportunity to share with others the words He has given me, I do just that. And whenever the Lord wakes me up at 3:00am with words for me to write, I get some paper by my bedside, turn on the light and I write. I really didn’t understand the gift of writing in my younger age, but now I do.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
