Para ilustrar este ponto, o autor tenta mostrar que os conceitos da física, da química e da biologia são necessários e suficientes para explicar todo o comportamento. Os comportamentos são acções ou movimentos que, em termos de física, implicam força, energia e matéria. O livro termina com uma discussão sobre as implicações da adoção de uma abordagem fisicalista em todas as disciplinas da psicologia, e não apenas em algumas.
