A proteção ambiental no âmbito da gestão pública do estado do Amazonas desempenha um papel central na conservação de recursos naturais e biodiversidade, dada a relevância global da região amazônica. Este estudo investigou a eficácia das políticas públicas de proteção ambiental implementadas no estado, utilizando uma abordagem metodológica baseada em revisão bibliográfica e análise documental. Os objetivos incluíram analisar a aplicação e os resultados das políticas públicas, identificar lacunas e desafios enfrentados na gestão sustentável, e propor recomendações estratégicas para o aprimoramento dessas práticas. Além disso, foram analisados os casos das usinas hidrelétricas de Belo Monte e Balbina, ilustrando os impactos ambientais causados por esses empreendimentos e suas implicações na formulação de políticas públicas na região amazônica.Os resultados revelaram avanços significativos, mas também expuseram deficiências estruturais e operacionais, como a falta de fiscalização efetiva e desarticulação entre níveis de governança.
