The book is intended to provide an introduction to bushwalking in Australia for those new to the activity ('new chums'). It’s aim is to be a concise guide for beginners. There are a number of matters that those new to bushwalking need to know concerning skills, fitness; where to walk; clothing and equipment; navigation; safety, hazards, and environmental impacts. This book attempts to be a resource for novice walkers that brings all the available information together. It is not meant to be a step-by-step guide to bushwalking but a pointer to the available resources for prospective bushwalkers. The author has over 30 years experience walking in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Nepal.
