Having been marked by liberalising reforms, talking about a national development strategy in Brazil in the 1990s sounds almost like an anachronism. The research published in this book, however, shows the origin and construction of a developmentalist strategy during that period, as well as the conflicts generated by the political defence of this type of strategy - in times marked by the primacy of an orthodox view of development, at least within the main economic apparatus of the national state.
