A Missing Piece of Jigsaw:The Birth, Life and Death of a Destructive Relationship This work consists of an anthology of didactic poems written over a two year period and illustrates the desperation and predictable demise of an emotionally abusive relationship, along with the gradual destruction of a trusting nature. The majority of the work focuses on the thought and feelings of the ’victim’ - although some examination and analysis of the victim role might be worthy of some critical evaluation; responses are expressed in italic font and again - the role of ’persecutor’ should remain open for discussion. A single contribution from a third party is identified through courier new font and this contribution has been presented at page 29. I have decided to publish this work to offer some solace to others in a similar situation. Whilst I was at my lowest ebb I searched in vain for text to express my feelings but the closest I got was a range of articles on Narcissism; a personality disorder characterised by an abnormal love of self. My ex partner displayed a range of narcissistic traits but the underlying issue was his compulsive lying and the catalyst for the end of the relationship was participation in a lie detector test (page 22: ’I didn’t do anything’). However, readers might also identify a range of other issues including insecurity, dependence and love addiction; this is the beauty of the work - through analysis and reflection, others may work through their pain by examination of a relationship that nearly cost me my sanity. I envisage a target market of a range of readers who are searching, like I did to make sense of a dysfunctional relationship. However, the work may also appeal to those who teach and promote the development of critical thinking; I would certainly use a text like this with my own students to examine their skills of analytical evaluation. I also envisage a trilogy of books that will examine reasons around my accommodation towards this d

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides. Set in contemporary Sydney, among a fictional underworld family, The Truth abou...
