A Millionaire’s Cousin is a novel written by Emily Lawless and published in 1885. The story revolves around a young woman named Honor Lacy, who is the cousin of a wealthy American millionaire named John Lacy. Honor is living a quiet life in the Irish countryside when she receives an unexpected invitation from John to come and visit him in America. Honor is excited at the prospect of traveling to America and experiencing all the luxuries that come with being a millionaire’s cousin. However, when she arrives, she quickly realizes that life in America is not as glamorous as she had imagined. John is a cold and distant man who seems to care more about his money than his family. As Honor struggles to find her place in John’s world, she meets a young man named Frank who works for John. Frank is kind and caring, and he helps Honor to see that there is more to life than money and status. Honor begins to fall in love with Frank, but their relationship is complicated by John’s disapproval and Honor’s own conflicted feelings about her cousin’s wealth. Throughout the novel, Honor must navigate the complex social dynamics of John’s world and come to terms with her own values and desires. A Millionaire’s Cousin is a story about love, family, and the search for meaning in a world that values money above all else. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
