A poesia de Hilda Hilst é marcada pela erudição. Através de elementos filosóficos, religiosos e mitológicos, sua escritura aborda temas universais, como a vida, a morte, o amor e o erotismo. Poeta que atuou em seu tempo, Hilst se apropriou de uma linguagem erótica para tentar entender o mundo contemporâneo. Num primeiro momento, em prosa, ela utilizou de uma linguagem tão obscena e humorística que beirou o grotesco. Enquanto reflexão paródica do pornográfico, essa parte de sua obra conduz o leitor a problematizar o consumo gerado pela indústria cultural no contexto sociocultural de uma era nomeada pós-moderna. Por outro lado, este trabalho, à luz dos estudos de Georges Bataille, Octavio Paz e Roland Barthes acerca do entendimento de erotismo enquanto reescritura de uma poética corporal e/ou de uma erótica verbal, apresenta como proposta o diálogo entre a poesia lírica hilstiana e alguns textos mitológicos, camonianos e contemporâneos.
