A Man Made Of Money is a satirical novel written by John Leech and published in 1849. The story revolves around the life of a wealthy man named Timothy Testy, who has amassed a fortune through shrewd investments and business dealings. Despite his wealth, Testy is unhappy and unsatisfied with his life, and he becomes obsessed with accumulating even more money. As Testy’s wealth grows, he becomes increasingly isolated from the people around him, including his wife and children. He becomes paranoid about losing his money and goes to great lengths to protect his fortune, including building elaborate security systems around his home. However, Testy’s obsession with money ultimately leads to his downfall. He becomes so consumed with his wealth that he neglects his health and well-being, and he eventually dies alone and miserable.Through the character of Timothy Testy, Leech critiques the greed and materialism of Victorian society, and he highlights the dangers of valuing money above all else. The novel is a biting satire that offers a sharp commentary on the social and economic issues of its time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
