Through the distorting lens of language, A Longing With No Nomenclature explores the anxiety and sadness of living in a dysfunctional, threatened world-and tenacious hope that it will someday improve. Some of the poems are telescopes glimpsing a present/future of political violence, ecological destruction, and personal loss. Some are rear-view mirrors revealing a childhood spent in the lonely beauty of the wild. There are love poems in here, too, and dream poems, and poems written in hotel rooms in the middle of the night, and poems that steal from other poets and from advertisements. All of them long for something that cannot quite be named. 6
