A Little Bush Maid is a children’s novel written by Mary Grant Bruce. The book follows the story of Norah Linton, a young girl who lives on a farm in Australia with her family. Norah is a curious and adventurous girl who loves exploring the bush and spending time with her animal friends. One day, Norah discovers a lost baby kangaroo and decides to take care of it. She names the kangaroo ''Joey'' and raises it as her own. Norah’s bond with Joey becomes stronger as they go on many adventures together in the Australian bush. However, Norah’s happiness is threatened when her father becomes ill and the family struggles to make ends meet. Norah takes it upon herself to help out by selling her beloved horse, Bobs, to a wealthy family. Throughout the book, Norah learns important life lessons about responsibility, friendship, and the importance of family. The story is filled with vivid descriptions of the Australian bush and its wildlife, making it a delightful read for children and adults alike.A yell from Wally intimated that he had something on his hook, and with immense pride he flourished in the air a diminutive blackfish--so small that the Hermit proposed to use it for bait, a suggestion promptly declined by the captor, who hid his catch securely in the fork of two branches, before re-baiting his hook. Then Harry pulled out a fine perch, and immediately afterwards Norah caught a blackfish; and after that the fun waxed fast and furious, the fish biting splendidly, and all hands being kept busy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
