Dies sind Geschichten über einen deutschen Jungen namens Fritz und seine Familie, die während des 2. Weltkrieges in Angst und Schrecken in der deutschen Stadt Wiesbaden gelebt haben. Nacht für Nacht flüchteten sie in einen nahegelegenen Bunker, bis ihre Mutter eines Tages entschied, die Kinder nach Bayern zu bringen um dort das Kriegsende abzuwarten. Im Jahre 1945 liefen die Kinder mit ihrer Mutter und einem vollgepackten Leiterwagen von Bayern zurück in ihre Heimatstadt Wiesbaden. Dieser Fußmarsch dauerte 12 Tage. Dort setzten sie in großer Armut ihr Leben in einer von den Amerikanern besetzten Militärzone fort bis die neue deutsche Währung eingeführt wurde und sich ihr Leben zum Besseren änderte. Im Jahre 1952 begann Fritz seine Ausbildung und beendete sie im Jahr 1955. Nach mehreren Jahren harter Arbeit entschied er sich 1962 ins gelobte Land, die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, zu reisen.
