My name is Tammie Riddle Godfrey. I used to view myself as a victim, until God showed me that victimhood was a mindset I had learned, not an identity He had given me. That revelation alone was life-changing. I began to understand that while pain had shaped my experiences, it never had the authority to name me. Scripture reminded me, 'So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed' (John 8:36 NIV). Freedom was not something I had to earn; it was something Christ had already secured. And I am living proof that God can take a woman who was tired, angry, wounded, ashamed, and afraid-and slowly, gently, miraculously turn her into a woman who stands, speaks, heals, and fights with spiritual authority. I share my story now because someone needs to know that healing is possible. That restoration is possible. That freedom is possible. That the victim mindset doesn’t have to be a permanent address-it can become a place you pass through on your way to victory. For so long, 'victim' felt like the only label that fit. It was stitched into every part of my story, every wound, every memory, every dark corner I didn’t dare touch. But God is a Master Surgeon, and He doesn’t just treat the surface. He reaches into the hidden places, the ones we avoid, the ones we fear will break us if we face them. In those places, He whispered truths that contradicted every lie I believed about myself. Slowly, patiently, He began to show me the woman He created me to be, beloved, chosen, strengthened, and capable of rising again. As much as I would love to say my deliverance happened overnight, it didn’t. Healing rarely does. It came in waves, in layers, in moments of surrender followed by moments of stumbling. There were days I felt brave, and days I curled into a ball and begged God to take the pain away. There were nights when tears soaked my pillow and mornings when I wasn’t sure I could take another step. Yet every time I stumbled, Christ carried me. Every time I fell, He helped me rise again. Every time I doubted, He reminded me that He had never left. Through my darkness, into my light, Christ was with me every step of the way on my journey to victory.Over the course of several years, Christ revealed His vision for me-a calling, a ministry, a purpose that was born directly out of my pain. He showed me that the very things I once believed disqualified me were the same things He would use to help others break free from the bondage and lies of their past. Scripture came alive as I realized, 'God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong' (1 Corinthians 1:27 NIV). My broken places were not liabilities; they were invitations for His power to be revealed. What I once saw as wounds, He transformed into wisdom, fulfilling His promise that He would 'heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds' (Psalm 147:3 NIV). What I once labeled shame and weakness, He turned into strength, because 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV). And what I once believed was defeat, He reshaped into destiny, reminding me that 'in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose' (Romans 8:28 NIV).This story is not just about my pain; it is about God’s healing power. It is not just about my brokenness; it is about His restoration. It is not just about survival; it is about transformation. So now, it’s time.Time to open the pages I once sealed shut.Time to peel back the layers of the past and reveal the victories God brought out of the ashes.Time to tell you my story: A Journey from Victim to Victorious.Let’s cry together. Let’s heal together. Let’s rise together.
