As a kid growing up in Ireland, with its historically rich landscape, every hillfort, stone circle and ruined castle held the tangible memory of a former age. The past was part of our DNA and defined who we were. I have travelled extensively across this great land, climbed up many breathtaking mountains, strolled along many wonderful beaches and taken the plunge in a few icy loughs. For years I have immersed myself in the history of my homeland and wish to convey the essence of this in my work. I would like the reader to feel inspired by Irish history in motion, to step on Ireland’s shores for the first time as a land-hungry Viking in 795, to stand in the stirrups of a Norman destrier in the frontline of Strongbow’s cavalry charge in 1169 and to raise the standard on Vinegar hill in 1798 in defiance of General Lake and his Redcoats.It is my intent to breath life into some of the events and characters of the past and to present the reader with an accurate and informative summary of Irish History from Alpha to Omega...
