Jesse Logan, having been raised in early Nevada as a cowboy and deer hunter, finds himself a private and sharpshooter on the fields of battle in the Civil War. His inclination to act impulsively often gets him in trouble with one of his superiors but also results in some rewards and promotions. He becomes romantically involved with a woman who turns out to be a secret agent for the Union army but also is married to a Rebel officer. The entanglement places him in mortal jeopardy from which he manages to barely escape. He survives the war as a lieutenant colonel and returns to his roots in Nevada.BOB WINTER, heir to several generations of cattle ranchers, chose law enforcement as his life’s career, progressing to the role of Sheriff of one of California’s larger counties. He now resides in the California Sierra Mountains with his wife, Carolyne and his dog, Molly. His vast supply of personal experiences and of family legends, along with his interest in the American Civil War led to his interest in passing along those ideas in the form of this book
