The title, A Fine Ride, was inspired by Pat Cobb's youngest grandchild, Kyle, when he was about eight years old. Having been told not to ride a second-hand bicycle down a hill until he got used to it on level ground, he, of course, just had to try the hill and ended up “wiping out” about a third of the way down. When his dad rushed to see if he was okay, Kyle brushed himself off saying, “I didn’t do so good, Dad, but it was a fine ride while it lasted!” Seeing this as a metaphor for her life Cobb set out to share 'a few stories about family and friends' and wound up with a sort-of memoir which includes both family history and some interesting reflections on her own 'fine ride.'
