A Constant Feeling of Not Knowing is a fiction novel written as an intimate psychological study of how a young girl copes with the challenges of her childhood and adolescence to a fulfilled life, overcoming the difficulties she faces with her Asperger’s syndrome. Isabel grows up in Cadiz, south of Spain, during the seventies and eighties. The dynamic of the family are determined by her father’s emotions, Roberto Grimaldi, and his poor empathy. Isabel’s mother, Graciela, has a difficult relationship with her husband. She is one of seven siblings with her nanny, Miss Spencer, who is also living in the house taking care of the children. Isabel manifests a different way of thinking based on a very rigid visual rational thinking, leaving her in a position of not knowing, where the internal and external environmental fear constantly collide. Isabel despite her difficulties and surroundings manages to find a way to socially connect building up a strong inner believe by analysing persons and situations. Her best friend Ana moves to the USA where Isabel will meet David, her future husband. Isabel attends university in Madrid where she studies mechanical engineering and where she is victim of a terrible incident due to her own social naivety.

Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
