Roland Van Zandt’s excellent book ’The Catskill Mountain House’ has many interesting (actually, fascinating) facts and stories that have been almost forgotten about the hotels and thousands of people who enjoyed the area for decades over one hundred years ago. Each hotel had different amenities and attractions. The Catskill Mountain House, the Hotel Kaaterskill, and the Laurel House Hotel were all different in their accommodations and degree of sophistication.I wrote my historical novel ’A Catskill Journey’ as a love story to knit together the history of the Catskill Mountains in the late 1800’s in a way that encourages readers to learn more. The hotel buildings are gone, and the foundations reclaimed by the forest.
