A Borrowed Sister is a novel written by Eliza Orne White and published in 1906. The story revolves around the life of a young girl named Barbara, who is sent to live with her wealthy relatives in Boston after her father’s death. Barbara is not accepted by her new family and is constantly reminded that she is a burden to them. However, she finds solace in her friendship with her cousin, Rose, who becomes her ''borrowed sister.'' As the story progresses, Barbara’s life takes a turn for the worse when her uncle loses his fortune and the family is forced to move to a small town. There, Barbara is forced to work as a maid and is treated poorly by her employers. However, she maintains her dignity and eventually finds love and happiness with a young man named Jack. The novel explores themes of family, friendship, class, and the struggle for acceptance. It is a heartwarming story of a young girl’s journey to find her place in the world and the importance of the relationships we form along the way. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
