Գրիգոր Նարեկացի (951-1003 թթ.), հայ բանաստեղծ, փիլիսոփա, երաժիշտ։ Ծնվել է Վանա լճի հարավային ափերին գտնվող գյուղերից մեկում,եկեղեցական գործիչ, աստվածաբան Խոսրով Անձևացու ընտանիքում: Փոքր հասակից կապված էր Ռշտունյաց աշխարհի Նարեկ գյուղի վանքի հետ, որից և՝ Նարեկացի անունը։ Վանքի վանահայրն էր մոր հորեղբայրը՝ փիլիսոփա Անանիա Նարեկացին։ Հնագույն ձեռագիր կենսագրականներում, բանաստեղծի գործերում, ինքնակենսագրական բնույթի հիշատակություններում Գրիգոր Նարեկացու կյանքի մասին պահպանվել են ոչ շատ, բայց հավաստի տեղեկություններ։ Ուսումնառությունն անցել է վանքի՝ X դ. հռչակված դպրոցում: Յուրացնելով դպրոցի մատենադարանի թարգմանական և ինքնուրույն ձեռագիր կրոնափիլիսոփայական գրականությունը՝ Գրիգոր Նարեկացին հետագայում դարձել է ուսման այդ կենտրոնի սյուներից մեկը։ Եղել է վարդապետ և մինչև կյանքի վերջն ապրել է Նարեկավանքում: Վանքի տարածքում Նարեկացու հիշատակին կառուցվել է մատուռ, որտեղ էլ ամփոփվել է նրա աճյունը:  Գ. Նարեկացուց մեզ հասել են բազմաթիվ գործեր, սակայն հայ և համաշխարհային գրականության մեջ նա հռչակվել է Մատյան ողբերգության պոեմով, որը պատկանում է մարդկության ստեղծած գեղարվեստական մեծագույն արժեքների թվին։ Պոեմում բանաստեղծը խոսում է կյանքի ու մահվան, անկման ու փրկության մասին, վերլուծում մարդկային կյանքի անկատարությունը, որտեղից էլ սկսվում են նրա ողբերգական ապրումներն ու տարակույսները:  Պոեմը հայտնի է Նարեկ անունով, բաղկացած է 95 գլխից (բանք), որոնցից յուրաքանչյուրն սկսվում է Ի խորոց սրտի խոսք Աստծո հետ տողով: Նարեկը հայտնի է նաև իր հրաշագործ ներգործությամբ և բուժիչ հատկություններով:
