Diese Aussage und die Überlegung, dass körperliche Erfahrungen die Ausbildung der Sinne und schließlich der Vernunft begründen und fördern, können Rousseaus Erziehungsphilosophie hinsichtlich der Rolle der Leibesübungen grob zusammenfassen. Rousseau wurde 1712 in Genf geboren, er starb 1778 in Ermenonville (Frankreich). 1762 veröffentlichte er seinen Erziehungsroman ‚Emile' eines der einflussreichsten pädagogischen Werke überhaupt. Als Vertreter der Aufklärung wandte er sich in ‚Emile' bewusst gegen die Normen und (erzieherischen) Methoden seiner Zeit. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit Jean Jacques Rousseaus ‚Emile' und hat zum Ziel die Rolle der körperlichen Übungen in seiner Erziehungsphilosophie herauszuarbeiten. Weiterhin sollen Einflüsse auf Rousseau einerseits sowie die Einflüsse des ‚Emile' auf philosophisch-pädagogische Strömungen andererseits beleuchtet werden.
