Abdulla Oripov (21 March 1941 - 5 November 2016 ) was an Uzbek poet and literary translator. He was a National Poet of Uzbekistan and the author of the lyrics for the National Anthem of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition to writing his own poetry, Abdulla Oripov translated the works of many famous foreign poets, such as Alexander Pushkin, Dante Alighieri, Nizami Ganjavi, and Taras Shevchenko into the Uzbek language. In 1998, he was awarded the title Hero of Uzbekistan, the highest honorary title that can be bestowed on a citizen by Uzbekistan.From 1965 to 2015, including compilations, Abdulla Oripov penned twenty-five books on poetry. Through his poetry, Abdulla Oripov reflected on all angles of life in Uzbekistan. Spiritual in nature, his works deliver the history of his people, continuing to touch the hearts of the nation.
