PUBLISHER NOTE: THIS IS AN UPDATED RESTYLED VERSION OF THE 2017 BOOK WHERE’S THE F IN REGGAE. This light hearted story takes a fresh slant on the emerging skinhead subculture of 69. Johnny Boswell aka Boss is a young lad trying to find his identity in the late 60s. He’s not overly aggressive but has acquired a penchant to demonstrate an overload of high jinx. He discovers his roots lie in the emerging skinhead subculture with reggae at its heart, so follow his misadventures on his journey of discovery from school days to meeting his ’skinhead girl’. Boss, whose mother has recently passed away is compelled to forgo a burning desire of playing professional football or making it as a PE teacher. His dream whipped away abruptly by his father who is adamant that Boss must leave school and get a job at the earliest opportunity in order to pay his way. Boss is unable to identify or sympathies with his peer group of hippies and bikers and is certainly no choir boy. He seeks to find his own way in life despite the many obstacles put in his way. He is however in awe of the clean cut appearance the mod’s portrayed earlier in the decade. The musical force in Jamaica during the mod era was predominantly ska and the influence helped to forge a new following, the skinhead, which Boss readily empathized. It was a culture the establishment had little time for, refusing to promote their preferred musical taste. The story does contain language archetypal of four young lads of school leaving age and reference to sexual endeavor.
