D’anciennes études de suivi oculaire en laboratoire ont montré que lorsqu’ils perçoivent des visages à l’endroit, les sujets regardent d’abord la bouche, puis tournent leur attention vers d’autres zones du visage. Les résultats collectifs des expériences, décrits dans l’article (Losing face: impaired discrimination of featural and configural information in the mouth region of an inverted face) de Tanaka, Kaiser, Hagen et Pierce, suggèrent que l’inversion perturbe l’attention portée à la moitié inférieure des visages, mais que ce n’est pas le cas pour les objets non faciaux. Dans cette étude, les yeux des sujets ont été suivis pendant qu’ils effectuaient une tâche de mémoire avec des visages et des maisons droits et inversés. Sur la base de l’article de Tanaka, Kaiser, Hagen et Pierce, nous avons testé l’hypothèse selon laquelle l’attention portée à la moitié inférieure des visages diminuerait après l’inversion, mais que l’attention portée à la moitié inférieure des maisons ne diminuerait pas après l’inversion.
