Die afrikanische Literatur zeichnete sich lange Zeit dadurch aus, dass sie in den jahrhundertealten mündlichen Traditionen des Kontinents verankert war. Sie drückt sich in einem Kontinuum aus, das mit dem Lokalen in Einklang steht, und hat ihren Stoff durch diese Autoren immer aus dem Schlamm des mündlichen Erbes geschöpft; und das in der Vielfalt ihrer Formen. So wird im Theater von Wole Soyinka das mündliche Erbe der Yoruba ausgewertet, ein echtes Ferment, das reich an ästhetischen Werten der Mythen, Legenden und Märchen ist, die gleichzeitig eine verbale Kunst sind, die eine Vision der Welt bietet und den Menschen in ein Beziehungsuniversum einordnet. Die Wiederentdeckung der Spuren des Mündlichen, um die es in dieser Studie geht, ist daher durch die Art ihres Gegenstands gerechtfertigt. Sie erinnert an die untrennbare und wesentliche Verbindung zwischen schriftlicher und mündlicher Literatur, bietet anhand eines dramatischen Korpus eine Lesart der Yoruba-Existenz durch die mündlichen Genres und schlägt durch die Symbolik des Übergangs Brücken zwischen dem Lokalen und dem Globalen, der Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart. Die Reflexion befasst sich mit Fragen der galoppierenden Fragmentierung des mündlichen Erbes und bahnt Wege zu seiner Neubewertung.
