La segunda parte titulada Las heridas del tiempo narra la vejez del protagonista, cuya obra ha caído en el olvido, excepto uno de sus libros, que tiene un éxito inesperado. Espoleado por una joven descarada y talentosa, el viejo escritor acaba entregando su diario de la pandemia, en donde narra su particular confinamiento y sus reflexiones sobre la vida y la literatura, en medio del caos de muertos y contagiados, con una prosa con-taminada por la lectura y la sombra siempre sospechosa de ser un escritor desconocido.
